The Club is having its legacy from Pre-Independence era. It came into existence on 30^th October 1923. The present IRC complex was developed as “Boat Club” by the British Officers and then Management of “ISHAPORE CLUB” for Boating, Shooting etc., i.e. purely for amusement purposes and was a part of Ishapore Club. Later on, Ichapur Rifle Club was re-organized by the Management of Rifle Factory Ishapore for promotion of Shooting Sports and to facilitate the employees and their families. The Club is registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act-XXVI of 1961. It is affiliated to West Bengal Rifle Association (WBRA). During pre-corporatization period the club members directly participated in the National events through the Ordnance Factory Sports Control Board (OFSPB) for the employees.

 

From 30^th October 2022, during Opening Ceremony of Centenary Year Celebration it was announced by the President that it will be opened for all as decided in the Annual General Body meeting.

 

Ichapur Rifle Club, a pioneer in Shooting Sports, is having facility of 10 mtr Range for Air Weapons and 50 mtr Range for .22 Ammunition. The Club is also conducting training/practices for Archery. The Club is governed by an Administrative Council where the Executive Director of Rifle Factory Ishapore will grace the Chair of the Hon’ble President as per the Bye-laws of the Club.

 

Shri Joydeep Karmakar, Olympian, Arjuna Awardee and Chief Coach of Indian Shooting team is an Honorary Member of IRC. He started his shooting carrier from this club.
